Livestock Shows

Entries will be open July 1-August 9, 2024. Be mindful of entry requirements and eligibility. The LATE Entry Deadline is August 14, 2024 with an added fee/head. Incomplete, incorrect, or late entries will NOT be accepted. Remember that cattle stalling requests are completed with entries. Late stall requests will not be honored. Sheep, goats, and swine are stalled on a first-come, first-served basis. Refer to the PDFs below for composite rules, schedules, and the Premium Handbook. • Grounds Passes are NOT required for Weekend 1 exhibitors (August 28 – September 2). Grounds Passes will be mailed to the address on file for each exhibitor entered in any show for Weekend 2 and/or Weekend 3.
• A Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI/Health Certificate) is required for all animals EXCEPT: Junior Market Steers, Open Breeding Sheep, and Youth Swine. All poultry are required to have a current Pullorum-Typhoid test and the only accepted birds will be TEXAS poultry.
• The cap for the Junior Market Steer Show is 720 entries. Please enter your steers with priority and gusto.

SHOWORKS Online Entries
Online entries completed through ShoWorks. Online, mail and all other forms of the submission of livestock entries, either by the exhibitor or by anyone acting for the exhibitor, constitutes an unconditional agreement to abide and be completely bound by these and all rules and regulations issued by the management.

Mail-In Entries
Junior and Open Llamas, Open Poultry, and Junior Rabbits are entered by paper entry forms. Online, mail and all other forms of the submission of livestock entries, either by the exhibitor or by anyone acting for the exhibitor, constitutes an unconditional agreement to abide and be completely bound by these and all rules and regulations issued by the management. Please complete and return, postmarked by the deadline to: 1700 HWY 36, Abilene, Texas 79602. Junior and Open Llama, Junior Rabbit DEADLINE: August 9. Open Poultry DEADLINE: August 28

2024 UPDATES:
• Youth Swine Show to allow eligible boars to show, reduced minimum weight, set premium payout
Boars under 100 lbs are now eligible to show in the Youth Swine Show. Any boar over 100 lbs at time of weigh-in will be removed from the show. Barrows and Gilts have a new minimum weight of 60 lbs. Classes will be divided into light and heavy weights and shown by breed. Accepted breeds are: Black OPB, White OPB, Duroc, Hampshire, Yorkshire, and Cross. The Premium Payout for the Youth Swine Show has been set and will pay out 1st – 8th place in each class.

• NEW! Junior American Registered Breeds (ARB) Heifer Show
The following breeds are eligible to compete in the NEW Junior ARB Heifer Show:
Beefmaster Advancer, Beefmaster E6, Braford, Braford F-1, Brahman Golden Certified F-1, Brahman Grey, Brahmousin, Brangus Optimizer/Brangus Built, Brangus Premium Gold/Commercial, Brangus Ultra Black, Brangus Ultra Red, Gelbray, Red Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, Santa Gertrudis 5-Star, Simbrah, Simbrah Percentage, and any other eligible ARB heifers.
Heifers must be registered with the appropriate breed association and valid registration paperwork will be shown at Check-In. The Premium Payout for the Junior ARB Heifer Show is set at $1,500.00 and will be paid out through fifth place.

• Updated accepted breeds for Junior Other Registered Breeds (ORB) Heifer Show
With the addition of the Junior ARB Heifer Show, the accepted breeds in the Junior Other Registered Breeds (ORB) Show are as follows:
Braunvieh, Braunvieh Beef Builder, Charolais, Charolais Percentage, Chianina, Gelbvieh, Gelbvieh Balancer, Limousin, LimiFlex, Maine Anjou, MainTainer, Pinzgauer, Red Angus Category 1B, Red Angus Category II, Red Angus Category III, Shorthorn Plus, Shorthorn Percentage, and any other eligible ORB heifers.
Heifers must be registered with the appropriate breed association and valid registration paperwork will be shown at Check-In. The Premium Payout for the Junior ORB Heifer Show is set at $2,000.00 and will be paid out through fifth place.

• Open Hereford and Polled Hereford combined to one show in accordance with Association standards.

• Red Angus state show held in conjunction with the West Texas Fair & Rodeo Livestock Shows
The Texas Red Angus Association will utilize the West Texas Fair & Rodeo as a host for the 2024 TRAA State Show. In addition to the show ring, the TRAA will facilitate state-level speaking and art contests.

• TXMHA Breeder’s Showcase
The Texas Miniature Hereford Association will sponsor a Breeder’s Showcase during Weekend 1 of the West Texas Fair & Rodeo. The WTF&R and TXMHA invite exhibitors and their families to the First Financial Pavilion to peruse top-notch Miniature Hereford blood and scope out potential projects for the following show season. No ticket is required – breeders will be stalled together!

• Open Poultry Show moved to Weekend 3 – Show Date September 14, 2024.
